Bartleby is multi-disciplinary design studio, engaged in interiors, furniture, textiles, and leather goods.

We are primarily concerned with making spaces and objects that respond to context. We make spaces and objects to address the needs of work, engage in a relationship to the body, and respond to notions of desire, economy, and power.

Most of our work is made entirely by hand in our Brooklyn Navy Yard studio. Our stocked textiles are handmade in Peru.

Bartleby is the project of principal designer, knitter, weaver, wood-turner, and leather-worker, Mary L Chan. Originally from Malaysia, Mary was raised in Hong Kong and Singapore, studied English Literature in Scotland and New York, and Interior Design at Parsons in New York City. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.
